Tulips have emerged

Winter cover for our organic garden. A snowy winter hasn't deterred the weeds too much.

3/25/11

We have been investigating and discussing different sources of power. We watched "Gasland" about the Marcellus Shale area that is in West Virginia. We learned about hydrocracking the earth in order to release natural gas deposits. We then went to the computers to find out the gas drillers side of the story. We didn't find much, but we will continue to look. What power source do you want in your backyard? Hydro and solar won the vote from our class.

San Francisco

Dear Envirothon Members:
I hope you are having good days during 1st block. San Francisco is amazing. Robert, every 30 minutes you can hear firetruck sirens--they answer to all emergencies. I've taken some video of them racing down the streets.

It is totally gorgeous weather; mostly sunshine and slight breezes. My room has a view of San Francisco Bay and parts of the industrial sections of the City. It's still all beautiful to me.

I brag on you guys all of the time. I'm bringing home lots of great stuff and things for every one of you--not keychains, they are expensive (8 would break me!). Please work hard during this week because planting season and the tournament are coming up fast.

Take care and let me know how things are going.

Ms. Finley

journal

To day the question is. What can you do if your soil is too sandy? Sandy soil has caritoristics of not holding water well, holds lots of air, and dusnot hold nutrents well. thus what you need to have is somthing with lots smoler molicuals so that it can hold more water and nutriants. so we need to change the ratio of sand, clay, and organic material. Or you can fined plants that will adapt or have some that are natral to that invironment.
